{Evangeline Renee} First Hello

This post has nothing to do with weddings or photography,
it’s a very personal post.
I’ll start with a little background for you.
Back in ’06 one of my best friends and I were joking about being in relationships at the same time, getting engaged around the same time, getting married and raising kids together.
This was partly a joke because there was a quite large age difference between us so most of our planning seemed unrealistic.
Well as the years when on what do you think happened?
Yep, we started relationships, got engaged and both married within the same year!
Then of course the joke was we would both have kids and that the kids could marry each other.
Well it was a fun idea to dream about but, like that would ever really happen.
One day my friend told me the news that they were expecting!
Of course I was thrilled for her!
And guess what?
A few months later I had to call her up and tell her I was also expecting!
How fun to be going through the same things together!
Well she was a few months ahead of me so Memorial Day ’11 was her due date.
We waited for her baby boy to come.
I had never been so looking forward to a non- family member’s birth.
Well as I was bringing my baby gift out to the car, I got the news that her little baby had died.
They didn’t know why, he was doing fine when last they checked but he was gone now.
I was in shock.
What do you say?
I couldn’t even cry.
Everything was numb.
Why, why, why just pluses through your mind.
Well I don’t know why, I know the Lord has a perfect plan and that He knows what best,
and that’s the only real comfort you have in a time like this.
Like I said, I didn’t have words so I wrote a song instead.
I am so sobered to know this can happen to anyone and even though I’m passed the “likelihood” of a miscarriage with my own baby, you can never know what one day will bring.
Life is so valuable and precious.
Don’t take it for granted.
{First Hello}
Dedicated to anyone who has lost their baby.
(Someday I’ll actually get someone who can sing to record it, but for now, you’ll just have to listen to me.)

Thanks to my friends Daniel and David for backing me up with more guitar and bass and my husband for helping me record.

I am so sorry for the grief your friend must be experiencing! I thought you sang your song well, and I really love the words. Brought me to tears. I can't imagine the feeling of that kind of loss, but the last part of your song was true … they will see their baby again someday and never have to say goodbye. Rachel Kjos

Wow, we have some friends who just lost their baby as well…I thought of them the whole time I listened to the song. (You did a great job, by the way!)

This is touching Evy. I pray it will minister to L. & J. and to others who have lost their babies.

  10. Sarah says:

Evy, thanks for taking the time to compose and share this. In the years since David and I lost our twins, a number of my friends have experienced miscarriages of their first or second babies. Still, miscarriage (or a failed adoption placement) not something to be afraid of, but a chance to praise the good God who gives and takes away. As God's well- loved ones, we do always hope, even in deep sorrow. I cry alongside Leah and Jeff and know that God is for them—and for me, as I still wait for a child.

  11. The song made me want to cry. About 2 years or so ago my aunt lost her baby twins when she was pretty far along. It was a very hard time for the family but watching God through my aunt was AMAZING.

P.S. I think that you sang it well 🙂

  12. Becky says:

    Beautiful! *teary smile*

I thought your singing was lovely. =)

  13. Phia says:

I'm sure the librarian is wondering why I'm crying. =')
